Results of 2016 End of Season Reclassification Meeting

Updated Monday January 9, 2017 by GHSA - Secretary.

At the end of 2016, a number of teams were reclassified up or down a league based off of results from their respective leagues, state tournament results, or, as in the case of 2016, the removal of the "Comp" league for co-ed.

"Comp" is now considered Coed A. A number of teams from Coed C were moved up to the newly created Coed B classification. Three teams from GHSA were moved up to this classification. Angels in the Outfield, Blood, Sweat and Beers, and Scared Hitless were all a part of this reclassification. Players that played on those teams last year will be classified as Coed B players for the upcoming season.

As new teams form leading up to the season, be aware of the players you have and their classifications to ensure that your team is properly classified. For those players and coaches that do not fully understand the way the classification system works, here's a basic rundown of how classifications work.

  • A team is allowed to have no more than 3 players from a classification one league higher than their own, to remain eligible at their current classification
    • For instance, a D league team can have no more than 3 C league players from the previous season to remain classified as a D league team
  • A team is allowed to have 1 player from two classifications higher, and 1 from one classification higher
    • For instance, a C league team can have one player from an A league team and one from a B league team, and still remain a C league team
  • Everything else outside of these classification rules needs to be run by the GHSA President (Kat Copeland) and/or the GHSA player representative to the classification board (Chris Inderrieden)

The accompanying document lists all of the teams in the various classifications around the state. In addition to the classification rules listed above, there are additional rules listed in the document that govern the classifications even more.
